Boat Window

Privacy Policy

Effective September 26, 2026

Boat Window ("the app") is made by Eric Wersel. This policy explains what data the app uses and where it goes. The short version: there's no account, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Your location is used only to fetch the forecast for where you are, and it is never sent to us.

What the app does not collect

The app has no sign-in and no developer-run server. We do not collect, store, sell, or share any personal information. The app contains no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.

Location

If you allow it, the app reads your device's location while you're using it, to show conditions where you are. You can also skip this and pick a spot on the map instead. The app never uses location in the background.

To build the forecast, the app sends the coordinates of your current or chosen spot directly from your device to the services listed below. Nothing is routed through us.

Third-party services

ServiceWhat it receivesWhy
Open-Meteo Coordinates Weather and marine (wave) forecasts
NOAA Tides & Currents The ID of the nearest tide station only, never your coordinates. The station is picked on your device. Tide predictions. This doesn't happen when tides are turned off.
Apple (iPhone only) Coordinates Turning coordinates into a place name, using the iPhone's built-in geocoder
BigDataCloud Coordinates Place name. Used on Android, and on iPhone only when Apple's geocoder can't find one.

Like any web request, these services also see your device's IP address. Each one handles data under its own privacy policy. The app doesn't send them any identifier linking a request to you.

Data stored on your device

The app keeps your settings (such as whether tides are on and your chosen location) and a cached list of NOAA tide stations on your device. This data never leaves your device, and deleting the app removes it.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and doesn't knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
